On Allocation of Funds

Whereas too much is at stake--for Israel, for the Jewish people, for the world--for us to jeopardize the safety, security and creative development of Israel; and

WHEREAS the UAHC deplores the discrimination against non-Orthodox Judaism by the State of Israel and the furtherance of such discrimination in the allocation of funds raised in the Diaspora for religious, educational, and social welfare purposes in Israel; and

WHEREAS, while continuing our maximum support for Israel and our efforts toward a more equitable allocation of opportunities and funds for all branches of religious Judaism, we must increase our support of the instruments and institutions of our movement in Israel,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT our congregations and their members must continue a united effort involving the fullest possible financial and political support for Israel; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT our congregations act to convince their local Federations and the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds to bring pressure upon the World Zionist Organization, the United Israel Appeal, the United Jewish Appeal, the Jewish Agency, and the government of Israel to:

  1. Cease the politicization of the distribution of funds, which has resulted in a disproportionate support for Orthodox institutions, and
  2. Commence the distribution of funds for religious, educational, and social welfare purposes in a balanced proportion among the major streams of religious Judaism.
