WHEREAS, the ethical malaise of contemporary society causes us deep concern and has touched our community as well, and
WHEREAS, we embrace our historic mission to be a light unto the nations and a holy people,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Union of American Hebrew Congregations call upon its lay and professional leaders and its members to exemplify in their daily behavior the highest standards of ethical conduct,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE UAHC:
- Call upon our congregations to discuss ethical standards for leadership and recognition within the synagogue and give highest priority to the teaching of ethical values in religious schools and adult education.
- Call upon its pertinent committees and commissions to update and expand educational material on such ethical conduct.
- Emphasize in its schools, camps and programs of adult education the teaching of ethics.
