Natural Disasters

The earth is a thing of beauty and a joy to behold. But there are times when nature goes out of control and leaves death and destruction behind. The recent earthquake in Northern California and Hurricane Hugo which devastated many Caribbean Islands and Carolina are brutal examples of the immutable forces of nature. The loss of life, homelessness, damage to property and worst of all damage to psyche and soul to the victims of these disasters has caused us deep concern and anguish.

THEREFORE, the Union of American Hebrew Congregations resolves to:

  1. Commend the quick and continuing relief efforts by all governments, private organizations and individuals.
  2. Call upon all members of UAHC congregations to participate in efforts to alleviate the human suffering and stress visited upon those in the path of these calamities.
  3. Charge the Social Action Committee to establish an emergency action network to coordinate movement efforts and responses.
