Welcoming Newcomers is as Important as Ever

Hosting Introduction to Judaism and A Taste of Judaism® classes
March 2, 2021Rabbi Miriam Wajnberg

Just over a year ago, as local governments implemented quarantines, shutdowns, and stay-home orders, synagogues rushed to shift Jewish communal life online. Introduction to Judaism classes were no exception: Classes that had just begun and had already formed a tenuous early web of connections amongst students continued via Zoom, and other classes, scheduled to begin in-person in the spring, quickly figured out that they would begin (and end) in online space.

Throughout the past year, congregations have continued to add Introduction to Judaism and A Taste of Judaism® classes and programs to their full and engaging calendars, knowing that more than ever, people in our communities are seeking connection, and deeper spiritual meaning in these uncertain times.

There is still so much uncertainty surrounding the 2021-22 program year: How will we gather? Which programs and services remain online? When will we return to our buildings? What unforeseen questions will we be asking? Yet we know that the need for learning opportunities like Introduction to Judaism and A Taste of Judaism® remains.

As you plan your congregation’s program calendar, please consider how and when you’ll include Introduction to Judaism and A Taste of Judaism® in your learning and engagement offerings.

If your congregation would like to learn more about offering one of these programs in the coming year, please email us. If your program is already planned, please use this form to let us know the details so we can support you.
